Article 116: It all starts with desire

Desire plays a huge role in the realisation of a rebel entrepreneur’s path. That primal, all encompassing urge to succeed feeds our initial ideas. It nourishes those early dreams until they start to take shape and become an unstoppable desire.

When we truly desire something it takes up space in our brains until it becomes difficult to think of anything else. Desire is what forces us to work towards our goals and take the necessary steps required to achieve them. Things we once thought impossible become possible when desire is added into the equation.

The act of processing desire is not arbitrary, but a neurological certainty. Desire is a powerful catalyst, and our brains are programmed to act on it efficiently until the desired goal is achieved. When we feel desire, the brain’s cortex processes it by assigning it a specific action. This then gives us the conscious motivation required in order to work towards that goal. The more pressing the desire, the more space it takes up in our brain. As this desire is acted upon, we are rewarded with the neurotransmitter dopamine, which triggers happiness while maintaining our focus. The quality of dopamine is addictive – it triggers more desire and the process repeats.

Our brains have been biologically optimised to help us achieve our goals, especially if they are backed by real desire. So if you truly desire to take that plunge, leave your 9-5 and finally embark on your dreams, tap into your desire and act. Desire will fuel your ideas and your dreams.
